People who suffer any or all of these maladies may be experiencing the results of a misaligned occlusion or bite. Because the teeth are dominant, the muscles and joints accommodate to a habitual or programmed “bite” dictated by the teeth. The jaw posturing muscles may be overworked attempting to maintain the present “programmed” position even though this may not be the best, most relaxed jaw position.
The grinders are grinding away at their teeth trying to wear away interferences. The clenchers are trying to push away the interference by squeezing their jaws together. All of these activities can lead to pain, migraines, headaches, joint noises and damage, and other TMJ disorders.
Through careful diagnosis with new technology, the correct position of the jaw can be found. The K-7 combines electromyography, sonography, and computerized jaw movement scanning. Electromyography (EMG) measures jaw muscle activity much like an EKG measures heart muscle activity. Electrosonography (ESG) records jaw joint noise. Computerized jaw movement scanning (CMS) records the patient’s jaw in motion and assists the Dr. Ottersberg in guiding the patient to their optimal position for muscle relaxation.
The Myomonitor is an ultra-low frequency TENS (transcutaneous electrical neural stimulation) to allow muscles to relax. The K-7 and the Myomonitor are used in conjunction to realign jaws for excellentmuscle relaxation.
